Youth / Preteens Counselling

The young people I work with are often thoughtful, sensitive, and carrying more than others realize. They may be struggling with anxiety, big emotions, self-doubt, friendship challenges, family stress, identity questions, or the pressure to hold it all together. Sometimes things can look “fine” on the outside while feeling overwhelming on the inside.

In therapy, we create a space to slow things down, make sense of emotions, and better understand the patterns underneath stress, shutdown, anger, or overwhelm. Together, we build emotional awareness, practical coping tools, and stronger self-understanding to support confidence, resilience, and healthier relationships.

Youth counselling is a supportive and collaborative space where young people can explore what they’re going through at their own pace—with honesty, curiosity, and without judgment.

Common reasons youth seek individual counselling:

  • Anxiety, perfectionism, and hyper-independence

  • Emotion regulation

  • Identity

  • Family conflict

  • School stress

  • Self-esteem & body image

  • Neurodivergence

Eating Disorders Recovery & Body Image

A person's hand holding a white measuring tape against a plain, light-colored wall.

I often work with individuals struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image concerns who may feel caught in cycles of restriction, bingeing, guilt, shame, or preoccupation with food and appearance. Therapy offers a compassionate space to understand the function these patterns have served, heal the relationship with food and body, and build a more grounded and trusting relationship with yourself.

Struggles with food, body image, and control can feel deeply personal and isolating. Eating disorders and disordered eating often develop as ways of coping with stress, trauma, or overwhelming emotions. Therapy can offer a supportive space to understand these patterns and build a more peaceful relationship with food, body, and self.

My approach to eating disorder recovery is grounded in both professional training and lived insight into how identity, self-worth, and our relationship with food impacts wellbeing. I bring steadiness, nuance, and compassion to our work.

Therapy may be a good fit if you are experiencing:

  • An eating disorder and/or disordered eating patterns

  • Chronic dieting, food rules, or feeling “out of control” around food

  • Body image distress, shame, or preoccupation with weight/shape

  • Binge eating, restriction, purging, or compensatory behaviours

  • Anxiety, perfectionism, or trauma connected to food and body

  • Recovery challenges or relapse concerns

  • Caregiver or family stress related to a loved one’s eating disorder

  • Feeling trapped in cycles of restriction, bingeing, or purging

  • Food and weight dominating thoughts and daily life

  • Difficulty trusting hunger and fullness cues

  • Shame, secrecy, or fear around eating and body changes

  • Trauma, control, or emotional regulation through food

  • Co-occurring anxiety, depression, trauma, or ADHD

  • Challenges in relationships, work, or school due to eating concerns

Common Concerns in Eating Disorders Therapy:

How Counselling Can Help:

  • Developing compassionate, sustainable coping skills beyond food or control

  • Rebuilding trust with your body and internal cues

  • Challenging perfectionism, shame, and self-criticism

  • Processing trauma or life experiences that contribute to eating concerns

  • Strengthening identity and self-worth beyond appearance or performance

  • Collaborating with dietitians, physicians, or other supports when appropriate

Recovery is not linear, and therapy is paced collaboratively, with respect for your readiness, safety, and goals.
